So, I was doing an online search for Easter Eggs as part of my work for Doxologi. And what to my wondering eyes should appear as first options on the search suggestions but the option for “easter eggs” in Disney and Pixar movies like Tangled. Easter eggs in Frozen? Confused and curious I followed the lead only to find references to trivial images in the cartoons. Who knew?
Couldn't they call them "hidden treasures" or "prizes for the clever and bored"? But, Easter Eggs??
So, what Christians think of as an Easter Egg hunt happening as a celebration of the resurrection of Christ as depicted on this Resurrection of Christ egg, has been profaned to mean a hunt for trivial images in cartoons?
I was beginning to wonder: should I be marching in defense of Easter Eggs?
Needless to say I looked up the meaning of Easter egg online and this is what I found:
plural noun: Easter eggs
1. a hard-boiled egg that is dyed and often decorated as part of the Easter celebration.
2. an unexpected or undocumented feature in a piece of computer software or on a DVD, included as a joke or a bonus.
OK, fine! A joke! But couldn't we just call them "hidden jokes"!
Honestly, I had momentarily thought this was a wicked plot to deconstruct the meaning of Easter Eggs in the minds of our children and to send traffic to their sites, but really….
How long has this been going on? (Or, should the question be: what planet have I been on?)
I'm still feeling a little sensitive and not sure it's not an incursion. Do we need to take back Easter? Doxologi's got beautiful Easter Eggs in the reverent tradition, no profaning going on here!

Let me tell ya! Getting back out on the ice today was great! Don, a friend of mine, and I made it happen today down at Chilled Ponds. We played in a pick up game of hockey and had a great time. It's been a long while since I've played hockey. Although, I have skated with my godson Patrick recently.
I played all the positions and had a pair of assists and towards the end of the game put in a goal with Don getting the primary assist.
It was a lot of fun and I think I'll be playing there more often in the future. If you're on the edge of getting out there, I recommend it especially since it's winter time and there are a whole bunch of places to skate outside. I know what you're all thinking and the answer is yes. You'll see me at the Olympics in four years.
